Volkswagen Faces a 2.3% Decline in Global Deliveries in 2024 Amidst Challenging Market Conditions

Global Sales Dip for Volkswagen in 2024

In a challenging year for the automotive industry, the Volkswagen Group reported a 2.3% decrease in global sales, totaling 9.03 million units in 2024. The most significant declines were observed in the Chinese market and the broader Asia-Pacific region, with drops of 9.5% and 17.5%, respectively.

Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Performance

Despite the overall downturn, Volkswagen's commitment to electric vehicles (EVs) remained strong, with 744,800 EVs delivered globally. The Volkswagen ID.4/ID.5, Volkswagen ID.3, and Audi Q4 e-tron emerged as the top-selling electric models. Additionally, the company saw a 5% increase in sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, signaling a growing consumer interest in more sustainable automotive options.

Leadership's Perspective

"In a challenging market environment, we delivered a total of 9 million vehicles in 2024," stated Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume. He highlighted the introduction of over 30 new models, many of which are all-electric, as part of the company's strategy to become the automotive technology leader. Blume expressed pride in the Volkswagen Group's leading position in the European all-electric vehicle segment and emphasized the company's ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability.
