Meta Platforms Inc. Faces a Pivotal Change
In a significant development, Roy Austin, Vice President for Civil Rights and Deputy General Counsel at Meta Platforms Inc., has announced his departure from the company by the end of March. This move comes at a time when Meta has been implementing sweeping policy changes across its social networks, including Facebook and Instagram. These changes notably include the cessation of fact-checker usage and the discontinuation of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.
A Vision for Positive Change
"I was drawn to this company because of its vast reach and potential to make a meaningful impact on the lives of billions. I wanted to be part of an effort that would bring about positive change, particularly for those who have been marginalized, oppressed, and silenced," Austin reflected on his tenure. He also mentioned that members of his civil rights team would be transitioning to different roles within Meta, ensuring the continuity of their work in new capacities.
