Eurozone Retail Sales Show Slight Uptick in November, Yet Non-Food Products Struggle

Eurozone and EU Retail Trade Growth

In November, the euro area witnessed a modest 0.1% increase in retail trade compared to the previous month, with the European Union experiencing a slightly higher growth of 0.2%, as reported by Eurostat on Thursday.

Year-over-Year Comparison

When compared to the same period last year, the Eurozone saw a 1.2% rise in retail trade, with the EU bloc recording a 1.5% increase. Notably, sales volumes for food, drinks, and tobacco in the euro area grew by 0.1%, and by 0.2% in the European Union.

Non-Food Products Face Decline

However, the sales of non-food products experienced a downturn, decreasing by 0.6% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU.

Country-wise Performance

Among the countries, Cyprus led with a significant 2.3% expansion in retail sales, followed by Bulgaria with a 1.3% increase, and Denmark and Latvia both recording a 1.1% growth. On the flip side, Belgium saw the largest contraction of 2.4%, with Germany and Spain also facing declines of 0.6%.
