Investigative Journalist Found Dead in Bastar
Mukesh Chandrakar, a 33-year-old journalist known for his critical field reports in Bastar, was found murdered and dumped in a septic tank on the premises of a road contractor in Bijapur district. His recent reports on an alleged road construction scam are suspected to be linked to his death.
Community and Authorities React to the Tragedy
The journalist community in Bijapur has called for a total shutdown to protest against the murder. Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his condolences on Twitter, vowing that the culprit will not be spared. The Bastar Journalist Association has labeled the incident a "dark chapter" and stressed the importance of journalist safety.
Investigation Underway
Mukesh went missing on New Year's Day after receiving a call from a local contractor. His mobile location was traced to the contractor's house, where his body was later found. The contractor is currently the prime suspect, and police teams are actively searching for him. The Raipur Press Club has also demanded swift action against the murderers, highlighting the need for justice and safety for journalists working in challenging environments.
