Following China, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan have significantly increased their purchases, with shipments to Cambodia experiencing a monumental rise of 139 times to $3 million.
A Bumper Year for Vietnam's Fruit Exports
Dang Phuc Nguyen, general secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, highlighted 2024 as a landmark year, especially for durian exports. The association projects fruit and vegetable exports to hit $7.1 billion, a 27% increase from 2023, with durian making up half of this value.
Future Prospects
With Vietnam set to begin exports of durian pulp and puree to China, the future looks promising. These products are expected to bring higher value than fresh durian, offering farmers the opportunity to utilize fruits that meet quality standards but are misshapen.
Vietnam's Durian Industry
Vietnam boasts approximately 154,000 hectares dedicated to durian cultivation, producing 1.2 million tons annually. Additionally, exports of other fruits like banana, jackfruit, mango, and coconut have seen remarkable year-on-year increases ranging from 20% to 400% in the first 11 months of the year.
