California Representative Advocates for Congressional Reforms
California Representative Ro Khanna has once again called for significant reforms within Congress, specifically urging for a ban on stock trading by lawmakers. This move aligns with President Joe Biden's stance, who firmly believes that congressional members should not engage in stock market activities that could lead to personal profit while in office.
Scrutiny Over Lawmakers' Stock Trades During Pandemic
The call for reform comes in the wake of allegations that several senators from both major political parties engaged in the sale of stocks and other financial holdings based on insider information regarding the coronavirus pandemic. Reports have surfaced indicating that some lawmakers executed trades just before the pandemic began to severely impact the economy, raising questions about the integrity of their actions.
Khanna's Comprehensive Plan for Washington
"It's time to clean up corruption in Washington," Khanna stated in a recent post on X, emphasizing the need for Congress to also ban donations from Political Action Committees (PACs) and lobbyists. The 48-year-old politician and lawyer is pushing for a broader reform agenda that includes implementing term limits for both Congress and the US Supreme Court, as well as establishing a code of ethics for the nation's highest court.
