The major stock exchanges in Asia exhibited a mixed performance on Wednesday, with trading volumes subdued as the Christmas holiday season takes hold.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite edged up by 0.07% at 6:58 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite saw a 0.43% decline a minute later. At 7:00 am CET, Japan's Nikkei 225 index was hovering around the flatline. Meanwhile, South Korea's Kospi Composite, Hong Kong's Hang Seng, and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 were all closed for the holiday.

The dollar traded 0.08% above the yen at 7:01 am CET, with the exchange rate standing at 157.36200.
