Dow Jones Industrial Average Suffers Significant Decline
On Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average experienced a substantial drop of over 300 points following the release of December's consumer confidence data in the United States. The data revealed a significant and stronger-than-expected decline, primarily impacting the shares of major retailers such as Walmart Inc., The Home Depot Inc., and The Coca-Cola Company.
At 10:18 am ET, the Dow Jones sank by 0.59% or 252 points, having previously nosedived by approximately 310 points. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500, which had both opened higher, experienced decreases of 0.08% and 0.28%, respectively.
In the foreign exchange market, the euro lost 0.32% against the dollar, trading at $1.03955 at 10:19 am ET.
