Market Overview
The stock market has seen a notable downturn, with the index closing 11.33 points lower after a previous session gain of 4.28 points. Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange surged by 40%, reaching VND17.81 trillion (US$700 million).
Performance of Key Stocks
Among the VN-30 basket, which includes the 30 largest capitalized stocks, 28 tickers experienced declines. Notable drops include SSB of SeABank, which fell 4.3%, and BCM of Becamex Investment and Industrial Development and TCB of private lender Techcombank, both dropping 1.9%.
On the positive side, BVH of insurance company Bao Viet Holdings and PLX of fuel distributor Petrolimex were the only two blue chips to close in the green, up 0.4% and 0.3% respectively.
Investor Activity
Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading VND481 billion, primarily from SSI of brokerage SSI Securities Corporation and VPB of private lender VPBank.
Meanwhile, the HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, which focuses on mid and small caps, rose 0.05%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market decreased by 0.37%.
