Meta Fined €251 Million by EU Privacy Regulator Over Data Breach

Meta Faces Heavy Fine for Data Breach

The lead European Union data privacy regulator for Meta, Ireland's Data Protection Commission (DPC), has imposed a hefty fine of 251 million euros ($263.5 million) on the social media giant following two inquiries into a personal data breach.

The breach, which impacted around 29 million Facebook accounts globally, including about 3 million in the EU, was reported to the DPC by Meta six years ago. The company promptly remedied the breach upon discovery, according to the DPC.

This significant fine serves as a reminder of the stringent data privacy regulations within the EU and the potential consequences for non-compliance.
