Meta Settles Privacy Breach Case

Meta Platforms has reached a $32 million settlement with the Australian Information Commissioner, bringing an end to civil penalty proceedings initiated in 2020. The Commissioner had alleged that personal information of some users was disclosed to Facebook's personality quiz app, This is Your Digital Life, as part of the broader Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data scandal.

The settlement amount of A$50 million (approximately $31.85 million) reflects a significant resolution for the privacy breach case, which had been a subject of concern for users and regulators alike. The withdrawal of the proceedings signifies a step towards addressing the data privacy issues that have plagued the social media giant in recent years.
