Tim Cook Set to Meet Trump Amidst EU Penalties and Market Dominance Concerns

Apple CEO Tim Cook to Meet Trump at Mar-a-Lago Resort

Apple CEO Tim Cook is scheduled to meet with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Friday evening at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to Reuters.

Business Leaders Seek Favorable Relations with Trump

Since Trump's election victory in November, business leaders have been working to establish a positive relationship with him. Notably, both Meta Platforms and Amazon have contributed $1 million each to Trump's inaugural fund. Bank of America, the second-largest U.S. lender, also plans to contribute to Trump's inaugural committee but is yet to finalize the amount.

EU Investigations and Market Dominance Issues

During his campaign for the White House, Trump mentioned receiving a call from Cook regarding concerns about financial penalties imposed by the European Union on Apple. European regulators have been conducting a series of investigations into major tech firms to curb their power and ensure fair competition for smaller rivals. The U.S. Justice Department has also accused Apple of unlawfully dominating the smartphone market.

No Immediate Response from Trump and Apple

Neither Trump's team nor Apple responded immediately to a request for comment. The meeting between Trump and Cook was previously reported by the New York Times.
