Future Security Depends on Preparedness
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Mark Rutte has called for a wartime mindset to ensure future safety, regardless of the outcome of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. During a recent address in Brussels, Rutte emphasized the need to accelerate defense production and strengthen collective resolve.
Describing the current global security situation as "undoubtedly the worst in [his] lifetime," Rutte highlighted the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and Moscow's alliances. He warned that NATO partners are not prepared for what lies ahead in the next four to five years, as Russia is preparing for a long-term confrontation with both Ukraine and the alliance.
Rutte urged swift action, cautioning that "danger is approaching rapidly" and must be confronted "head-on." He also noted that similar threats could arise closer to home, stressing the urgency of long-term vigilance and collaboration.
