OpenAI Addresses Global ChatGPT Outage and Sora Issues

OpenAI has issued an apology to its 200 million users following a global outage of ChatGPT and its API, which began late Tuesday. The company acknowledged the disruption on X, stating, "ChatGPT, API, and Sora were down today, but we've recovered."

The outage occurred shortly after ChatGPT's integration with Apple's Siri and Apple Intelligence on iPhones, iPads, and Macs. OpenAI's video generation model Sora was also affected, with outage reports peaking at over 1,500 in 15 minutes.

Despite the recovery, Sora's website still displayed a message citing heavy traffic and temporarily disabled account creation. OpenAI has not confirmed if the Apple integration triggered the failure.

This incident highlights the challenges OpenAI faces as it integrates its AI models with major platforms and the importance of robust infrastructure to support such integrations.
