Malaysia's Strategic Move in AI Development
Kuala Lumpur witnessed a significant milestone on Thursday with the launch of Malaysia's National Artificial Intelligence Office. This initiative is aimed at formulating policies and addressing regulatory concerns, positioning Malaysia as a leading regional hub for AI development.
Attracting Global Tech Giants
In recent years, Malaysia has attracted billions of dollars in investment from global tech firms, including Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, who are building critical infrastructure to meet the escalating demand for cloud and AI services.
Comprehensive AI Strategy
The newly established office will function as a centralized agency for AI, responsible for strategic planning, research and development, and regulatory oversight. Its first-year deliverables include developing a code of ethics, an AI regulatory framework, and a five-year AI technology action plan leading up to 2030.
Boosting the Digital Economy
The Malaysian government's emphasis on digital ventures has significantly boosted the economy in 2024. Approved investments in the information and communications sub-sector reached 71.1 billion ringgit ($16.06 billion), according to the country's investment authority.
