BOJ Deputy Governor Himino's Upcoming Speech and Press Conference
Bank of Japan (BOJ) Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino is set to deliver a speech and hold a news conference in Yokohama on January 14th, according to a statement released by the central bank on Monday.
This event will take place just before the BOJ's policy-setting meeting on January 23-24, where some analysts anticipate a potential interest rate hike, unless it occurs at the upcoming meeting on December 18-19.
As a former head of Japan's bank regulator and one of the BOJ's two deputy governors, Himino is viewed as one of the more hawkish members on the board regarding monetary policy.
Himino's speech to business leaders in Yokohama is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. local time (0130 GMT), followed by a news conference from 2:00-2:30 p.m. (0500-0530 GMT).
BOJ board members, including the two deputies, typically travel outside of Tokyo and deliver speeches approximately twice a year. These events are closely monitored by markets for insights into the BOJ's policy stance and the timing of its next interest rate adjustment.
