Dollar's Decline Against Vietnamese Dong: A Closer Look

Dollar Falls to Lowest Level Against Vietnamese Dong Since November

Vietcombank sold the dollar at VND25,463, marking a 0.08% decrease from Thursday's rate and the lowest since November 12th. This decline comes as the State Bank of Vietnam maintains its reference rate at VND24,251.

At unofficial exchange points, the greenback dropped 0.19% to VND25,790. Despite this recent dip, the dollar has risen by 4.14% against the dong since the beginning of the year.

Global Currency Movements

Globally, the yen surged by as much as 1.2% against the U.S. dollar, reaching a six-week high on Friday. This jump followed faster-than-expected inflation in Tokyo, which fueled speculation of a Bank of Japan interest rate hike next month, according to Reuters.

The dollar also weakened against most major currencies due to the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, with sterling, New Zealand's kiwi, and the Chinese yuan all reaching their strongest levels in more than a week.
