Microsoft Accuses FTC of Leaking Probe Details to Media

Microsoft Slams FTC for Alleged Strategic Leaks

In a recent development, Microsoft Corporation has accused the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of leaking information about an ongoing antitrust probe to the media. According to The Verge, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President (CVP) and Deputy General Counsel, Rima Alaily, expressed strong disapproval in a letter obtained by the publication.

Alaily criticized the FTC for what she described as a "consistent trend over the last two years" of strategically leaking nonpublic information. She claimed that even Microsoft itself learned of the investigation from a Bloomberg report, which the FTC allegedly used to discredit the company with competition authorities, policymakers, and the public.

Furthermore, Alaily reminded the agency that, according to its own rules, "the existence of an FTC investigation is nonpublic information" until it is fully affirmed that "doing so would be in the public interest."
